Key Beliefs (RE)

 Key Beliefs

“ The Apostles' Creed is trinitarian in structure with sections affirming belief in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.[2] “ Basically the Apostles believe that God is the essence of the trinity (Father, son, holy spirit.) As three beings in one god. This belief has been essential to the Christian Church. This has been assumed to be a direct belief from the original apostles themselves.

The Apostle's Creed:

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

This is the first recorded evidence of the creed.

The Apostles creed is still used today in many churches and is held to a high regard in the christian community as the apostles teachings.

Nicene Creed

“We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. … We believe in One Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God … of one Being with the Father … [who] was made man … he suffered death and … he rose again … and is seated at the right hand of the Father. … We believe in the Holy Spirit … the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son … who has spoken through the prophets.” Nicene Creed

The nicenes creed holds the core belief is that there is one god that exists in three persons. Jesus, who was born and died fully human to save the other humans. God, who was the divine creator. The Holy Spirit which is the giver of life and the presence of God.

Summary of Key Beliefs (apostles creed)

Catholics share with Christians the belief that Jesus is the divine son of God, God is the creator of all and the holy spirit gives life.

The Son

Catholicism believes in not only the divinity of Jesus but also the immortality of a human soul which will be judged for their actions in life through death. Dictating where their soul should go in the after life. Jesus however is viewed to have died fully human despite being the son of God to “save” humanity from their sin, and after rose to heaven to stay at the right hand of god. These beliefs stem from the teachings of the life and death of Jesus. Jesus also started the Catholic church and appointed 12 apostles to continue his work after his death, and eventual resurrection.

The Father

God is viewed as the creator of everything and a divine being and is a vital part of the trinity. God is the creator. Catholics believe you can enter relations with god through prayer and other methods.

The Holy Spirit

The holy spirit is God’s continued presence on earth. The Holy Spirit often works through miracles and speaks through prophets and those faithful to the religion. The Holy Spirit in my eyes represents faith in catholicism and in the trinity.
